Are we still in a drought? Are any streets closed on the way to my kid’s school? My trash wasn’t picked up yesterday—what’s going on?
Here at the City, we’re committed to answering our residents’ most pressing questions about City services, ideally in ways that are both timely and direct so that residents can quickly take action based on circumstances that affect them.
For the past few years, we’ve used our City of ×ã½»ÊÓƵ Alert Center to reach residents at the touch of a button, providing email and text notifications about road closures, water service and certain weather-related updates. However, our previous software would send messages to all users regardless of where they lived, which made it inefficient for sending alerts that only affect a small number of people (like a rescheduled trash pickup, for example).
Our new software changes all that. This month, the City launched our updated Alert Center powered by Everbridge, a mass notification software that allows us to send targeted alerts to residents based on where they live. As the service rolls out, residents will be able to sign up for alerts about many different services, including trash and recycling pickup, water boil notices, street sweeping and mosquito spraying.
So, how can residents sign up to receive alerts? The process will look a little different depending on whether you’re a City of ×ã½»ÊÓƵ utility customer.
If you’re already a customer, you have been automatically subscribed to the new Alert Center and will receive alerts related to your City of ×ã½»ÊÓƵ Solid Waste and water services. These alerts will be sent to whichever contact methods are associated with your City of ×ã½»ÊÓƵ utility account.
Customers should have received an email Dec. 19 (check your spam folder) inviting them to create an account within the new Alert Center. Once you’ve created an account, you will be able to customize how you receive alerts (a minimum of one contact method is required) and sign up for additional types of alerts.
Not a customer? No problem. Simply go to to create an account. You will need to provide an address if you want to receive targeted alerts.
Even if you’ve signed up for City of ×ã½»ÊÓƵ alerts in the past, you will need to sign up using the new system to ensure that you do not miss an update. We will be sending reminders to our loyal subscribers to make sure they make the switch with us.
