Inside the Village Shopping Center, the cornerstone store at 2502 N. Laurent St. has worn many hats. The almost 19,000-square-foot space has previously been two department stores, two restaurants, a discount store, multiple different grocery stores.

In keeping with tradition and its most previous incarnation, the empty store will once again be home to a Mexican-inspired grocery store.

With two locations already in New Braunfels, Guadalajara Meat Market is coming to 足交视频, offering fresh cuts of meat, traditional Mexican spices, vegetables and authentic pan dulce.

鈥淚n 2013, we decided to venture from restaurateurs and bring a little bit of Guadalajara, Mexico to New Braunfels, Texas through our local Guadalajara Meat Market where you can find just about everything you need for your next homemade Mexican meal,鈥 the company said on its website.

What started as a department store has now been a grocery store at least three times. Most residents are used to stopping by the building to pick up groceries instead of clothing.

Back when Laurent St. was the main thoroughfare and the beating heart of 足交视频, the corner lot of the shopping center was occupied by Danburg鈥檚 Department Store throughout the 1960s. For a brief moment in time it was a seafood restaurant called Farmer Boy鈥檚 Catfish Kitchen in 1971.

Later, another venue called Weiner鈥檚 Department store took over the building and remained there from the early 1970s until the late 1990s. In 1999, Dollar King set up shop in the former department store until the early 2000s.

The Dollar King is still open today in the same shopping center, just a few doors down from its original location.

But before the building became a Save-A-Lot grocery store in 2006, a restaurant called the La Pantera Club called the location home in 2005. Most recently, two different grocery stores have welcomed patrons in to do their weekly shopping, La Michoacana Supermarket and later, Food City, which closed in 2022.

As a new grocery store fills the empty corner lot spot at the Village Shopping Center, residents are once again invited back to 2502 N. Laurent St. to load up a shopping cart and stock up their pantries.
