At approximately 8:07 a.m. this morning, Feb. 4, the ×ã½»ÊÓƵ County Sheriff’s Department was involved with a vehicle pursuit on J2 Ranch Road, FM 444. The pursuit was with a white 2008 Infiniti SUV.
The deputy on scene initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle. The driver, Joel Escobedo, 41, attempted to flee from the stop, again being pursued by the Sheriff’s Department, Sergeant Ruben San Miguel, Texas Department of Public Safety regional public information officer, said. He hit a bump in the road while heading south on J2 Ranch Road, causing him to lose control of the vehicle.
The car went off the west side of the road, through a barbed wire fence, into a side skid and overturned multiple times, San Miguel said. The vehicle came to rest on the driver-side door against a grouping of trees.
As the vehicle overturned, Escobedo, who was unrestrained, was ejected, San Miguel said. He was pronounced deceased at the scene of the accident.
The accident is being investigated by the Texas Department of Public Safety and is ongoing.
