EDNA, Texas — A Jackson County grand jury has indicted former Edna ISD teacher and coach He was arrested and accused on charges of Online Solicitation of a Minor, Improper Relationship Between Educator and Student and Sexual Performance of a Child—Employ, Induce, or Authorize.
O’Connor is the son of Edna ISD Superintendent Robert O’Connor.
Online Solicitation of a Minor is a third-degree felony punishable by 2 to 10 years in prison. The charges of Improper Relationship Between Educator and Student and Sexual Performance of a Child carry penalties of 2 to 20 years in prison.
O’Connor was arrested Sept. 16, 2024, and released the same day. He resigned from the district the after his arrest during a special-called school board meeting.
According to a release from the Jackson County District Clerk’s office, under count 1, O’Connor was indicted for intent to commit one of the following offenses: Indecency with a child, sexual assault, prohibited sexual conduct, sexual performance by a child or possession of child pornography.
The district first became aware of the allegations on Sept. 10 and placed O’Connor on administrative leave while law enforcement conducted an investigation, according to a Facebook post from Edna ISD.
O’Connor graduated from Edna High School in 2015 and had been employed with the district since 2020. He is also the son of Edna ISD Superintendent Robert O’Connor.
