Bronte Club

President Nina DiLeo called the meeting to order, She then announced the passing of former Bronte member Cindy Schmidt and expressed sympathy for her family.

Claudia Quintero Moseley, the Education Coordinator at the Museum of the Coastal Bend, which is part of 足交视频 College, was introduced as the guest speaker. Ms. Moseley spoke on 鈥淭he Ballad of the La Salle Colony of 1686.鈥 Her presentation detailed the unsuccessful efforts of the French to find the southern mouth of the Mississippi and to start a colony on Garcitas Creek, near 足交视频. Some of the cannons from the expedition are on exhibit at the Museum of the Coastal Bend.

A report on the Clubhouse repairs and updates that have been completed were presented. The Federation report given by Mary Jane Schurtz. Corresponding secretary, Susan Whitehouse, reported sympathy cards and get-well cards were sent out.

Meals on Wheels South Texas & H-E-B

Meals on Wheels South Texas will deliver 600 holiday meals to homebound individuals in 足交视频 on Thursday, Dec. 12. The meals are sponsored by H-E-B as part of the chain鈥檚 Feast of Sharing.

It will be Meals on Wheels South Texas鈥 fifth year participating in this monumental and rewarding event, taking H-E-B鈥檚 celebrated feast to homebound members of our community.

Spherion South Central Texas hire

Makayla Ramirez recently joined Spherion Staffing and Recruiting-South Central Texas as the Staffing and Marketing Coordinator, where she supports the recruiting team and assists with social media management and marketing initiatives.

Ramirez is a senior at the University of Houston-足交视频, majoring in Business Management and minoring in Marketing. A proud triplet, she values the unique experiences and perspective this has brought to her life.

足交视频 Distinguished Citizens

The City of 足交视频 recognized 12 Distinguished Citizens during the Nov. 19 City Council meeting.

Residents can earn the title of Distinguished Citizen by completing the three educational programs offered by the City: Citizens Academy, hosted by Communications & Public Affairs; the Civilian Police Academy, hosted by the 足交视频 Police Department; and the Civilian Responder Program, hosted by the 足交视频 Fire Department.

The programs are designed to encourage civic involvement and give residents a deeper understanding of how their local government operates.

Residents who earned the title of Distinguished Citizen during the past year were Rose Blaha, Joni Burk, Carl Frisch, Rosanna Frisch, Ruth Glaeske, Vilas Glaeske, Barbara Lingle, Ellen McCraney (not pictured), Naomi Odom, Carolyn Schoener (not pictured), Norman Schoener and Debra Williams.

City hosts Citizens Academy Alumni luncheon

Former Citizens Academy participants were able to connect with each other, learn more about the City of 足交视频 and receive updates about events and volunteer opportunities at the third annual Citizens Academy Alumni luncheon Nov. 21 at the 足交视频 Community Center annex.

At the luncheon, City Manager Jes煤s A. Garza gave a presentation about City projects and initiatives and answered residents鈥 questions.

Citizens Academy is a free, five-week educational program that gives residents a chance to learn about and engage with their local government through guest speakers, question-and-answer sessions, and hands-on activities and tours. The program is hosted by Communications & Public Affairs.

In 2022, Communications & Public Affairs created the Citizens Academy Alumni Association to help participants stay involved with educational, volunteer and networking opportunities.

鈥淥ne of the primary goals of Citizens Academy is to encourage informed and engaged citizenship,鈥 said Communications Director Ashley Strevel. 鈥淭he alumni group gives our participants an avenue to continue applying the lessons they learned at Citizens Academy and get involved in their community long after the program ends.鈥
