After eight months of construction, Citizens Medical Center held a ribbon cutting cutting ceremony for their two brand new Cath Labs.

Citizens Medical Center showcased their new state of the art Philips Azurion Cardiac Cath Lab System. This system improves patient safety and comfort by shortening procedure times and decreasing radiation exposure by 60 to 80%.

鈥淭here鈥檚 no better equipment in the area than what we have here. This is the latest and the greatest and this is proven life saving equipment,鈥 Mike Olson, Chief Executive of Operations at Citizens said.

The advanced technology in the Cath Lab systems allows precise diagnosis and treatment of cardiac disease and high quality imaging with low X-Ray dosage.

The Cath Labs at Citizen鈥檚 Medical Center were made possible by a $3,015,000 donation from M.G. and Lillie A. Johnson foundation. At the grand opening, the foundation surprised Olson with two additional donations. The foundation donated an extra million dollars to keep the lab as updated as possible and two million dollars for Citizens Medical Center to purchase the PET-CT scanner they had requested.

The PET-CT scanner combines two well-established treatment modalities into one imaging session to diagnose and locate cancers, decrease scan times, detect the smallest lesions, and significantly reduce radiation exposure to patients.

鈥淲e buy the equipment to help the hospital to provide the care to generate funds,鈥 Robert Halepeska, Executive Vice-President of the M.G. and Lillie A. Johnson Foundation said.

State of the art equipment like the new Cath Lab systems and the PET-CT scanner are some of the ways Citizens Medical Center is working to provide cutting-edge care to the 足交视频 community.

Citizens Medical Center said that they increased patient load by 8% while only having one operational Cath Lab at a time. Since opening in March, the first Cath Lab has seen about 500 to 600 patients and now with both operational, the Cath Labs at Citizens are seeing a constant rotation of patients.

鈥淲e stay ahead and stay above the curve. We鈥檙e not competing with DeTar, we鈥檙e trying to compete against hospitals in Austin and Houston,鈥 Dr. Tywaun Tillman, Interventional Cardiologist and Cath Lab Director said.

Tillman stated that 8 out 10 trauma cases come to Citizens. Additionally, Cath Lab Manager Randy Kucera said that 15 years ago they decided to close their time response window from 30 minutes to 20 minutes.

鈥淚 would challenge any hospital in our country to compete with our numbers,鈥 Dr. Kurtis Krueger, who has been a cardiologist at Citizens for 38 years said.

Kucera said that using the new equipment in the Cath Labs was like going from driving a Chevy to a Formula One race car.

鈥淭he car however can only be as good as the team behind the wheel, it鈥檚 the same here,鈥 Kucera said.

The Cath Labs were in the planning process for four years and were built in 8 months. Krueger said they have made investments to stay ahead. Tillman added that they were forced to remodel but they were not forced to have the latest and greatest.

鈥淭he labs were built to last for the rest of our lives and to be handed off to the next generation,鈥 Kucera said.
