Robert 鈥淏obby鈥 James Christopher Kallus
SAN MARCOS 鈥 Robert James Christopher Kallus, 67, passed away on December 22nd, 2024, in San Marcos, Texas surround by his family. He was born on December 7th, 1957, in Hallettsville, Texas to Mr. and Mrs. George and Anita Kallus.
Bobby was a devoted father, musician, and loyal friend. He lived his life with a deep sense of kindness, humor, and generosity, leaving an undeniable mark on everyone who knew him. As a father, Bobby was a source of unwavering support and guidance to his daughters, Kristen and Keriann, always providing a listening ear and words of advice. His dedication to his role as a dad and his ability to impart wisdom, love, and joy will never be forgotten.
Bobby attended Sacred Heart Catholic School and went on to earn a degree in psychology from Southwest Texas University (now Texas State University). He was a valued employee of Austin Glass and Mirror for 40 years, starting his career at AGM nearly day one in 1984 when their doors first opened.
A gifted drummer, Bobby鈥檚 musical journey began at an early age. His path as a musician began at the age of 10 years old, playing in various local bands, and eventually touring all over the world with folksinger, the late Jimmy LaFave. Some of the most notable bands 鈥淪mooth Hands Kallus鈥 was a part of, were The Drug Store Cowboys, Bill Pekar and The Rainey Brothers and of course, The Night Tribe. His stage presence was always clearly felt, marked by his giant smile, contagious joy, and passion that went beyond the stage.
Bobby is survived by his beloved daughters, Kristen (Ricky) Kallus-Guerra and Keriann Kallus. He is also Survived by his siblings A.J. Kallus, George Kallus, Joseph Kallus, Jane Miles, MaryAnn Litzmann, and many dear friends and fellow musicians who were fortunate enough to share in his life鈥檚 melody. He was proceeded in death by his parents, Anita and George Kallus, and his siblings Johnny Kallus and Betty Orsak.
Visitation will be held on February 1st, at 9 am, followed by the rosary at 10 am and the funeral service at 10:30 am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hallettsville, Texas. A private burial will take place shortly after the service. A celebration of Bobby鈥檚 life will begin following the service at the Kocian Building, where friends and fellow musicians are invited to share their memories of Bobby鈥檚 legacy. Memorial donations in lieu of flowers can be sent to Swan Songs-Musical Last Wishes-Austin.
