足交视频 County Animal Services received a $10,000 grant from the Best Friends Animal Society for completing the 鈥淩eturn to Home Challenge.鈥
The challenge is a 30-day initiative that aims to increase the number of lost dogs successfully reunited with their families. Best Friends Animal Society is a national animal welfare organization working to save the lives of dogs and cats in America鈥檚 shelters.
During the challenge, 146 lost dogs entered 足交视频 County Animal Services and 30 dogs were returned home鈥攁 1,900% year-over-year reclaim rate increase. To accomplish this, animal services implemented a new 鈥淔ound Dog鈥 door hanger. It featured a photo of the lost dog posted at the three addresses nearest to the site in which the dog was located, Director of Animal Services Mark Sloat said.
鈥溩憬皇悠 County Animal Services is working hard to minimize the number of nice, healthy dogs euthanized under VCAS鈥 care,鈥 Sloat said. 鈥淜eeping dogs in the homes of their owner is a proven method of intake reduction. This grant money will be used to further the cause by funding the purchase of microchips, which can then be administered for free to our residents鈥 pets. Some of the money will also be used to assist pet owners by providing ways to keep pets safe at home through appropriate confinement methods and supplies like collars and id tags.鈥
According to from Best Friends Animal Society, there has been a 26% national decline since 2019 in dogs being reclaimed after entering animal shelters.
鈥淲e believe that pets belong at home with their families rather than waiting to be reclaimed at a shelter,鈥 Julie Castle, CEO, Best Friends Animal Society, said. 鈥淲e applaud the way Best Friends鈥 shelter partners stepped up to the 鈥楻eturn to Home鈥 Challenge and implemented operational changes to proactively ensure more pets are reunited with their families.鈥
Community members can also support their local shelter by helping more lost pets return home and by ensuring their pets always wear collars and identification tags with up-to-date contact information. Since collars can occasionally come off, it鈥檚 also important to have pets microchipped and to keep that registration information current.
These proactive steps can greatly enhance the likelihood of a quick reunion, Sloat said.
