足交视频 West is giving itself a taste of what life will be like in its new district.

The Warriors will open the season against Lockhart at 7 p.m. Friday at Memorial Stadium.

Lockhart finished fourth in a district featuring San Antonio Veterans Memorial and Kerrville Tivy last season, before losing to Alamo Heights.

All three of those teams will be in a district with the Warriors, making the Lockhart matchup something of a litmus test for what鈥檚 to come.

鈥淚t鈥檚 going to be good to see where we can match up compared to some of these other teams,鈥 said senior defensive end Trevor Robinson. 鈥淚 think this is a good starting point.鈥

When the Warriors turned on the film, head coach Courtney Boyce saw a team very similar schematically to the one the Warriors played in the 2021 season.

鈥淭here鈥檚 some familiarity with them, obviously they鈥檝e made some changes but a lot of the basics are still the same,鈥 Boyce said. 鈥淭hey were a playoff team last year, and it鈥檚 a really good test for us in all phases.鈥

While Lockhart is anticipated to be familiar schematically, the Warriors defense won鈥檛 be.

After hiring a new defensive coordinator, Jacob Huckaby from Magnolia West, the Warriors will have a different look. That excitement to debut that new scheme is building.

鈥淭here鈥檚 been a lot of changes, and we believe in Coach Huckaby and what he鈥檚 doing,鈥 Robinson said. 鈥淚 think so far the results have been good, I have high hopes for our defense and I think everyone else here does too.鈥

The Warriors played their only scrimmage last week against Gregory-Portland, and Boyce saw positive signs from his team.

鈥淚 was excited about just how we went out and played, especially on the road,鈥 Boyce said. 鈥淲hen something positive happened, we came back and ran the next play of something negative or something didn鈥檛 go our way we didn鈥檛 sit there and drown in it, we got ourselves out of it real quick and I think that was a big positive.鈥

The Warriors have had a quarterback battle throughout the offseason, and it is expected to carry into the season.

DJ Martinez and Nolan Boyce have been splitting first-team reps throughout the preseason and it鈥檚 likely that both will play Friday.

Regardless of who the quarterback is, senior center Braden Merritt, who is in his third year as a starter, is holding the line accountable for the offense.

鈥淚 try and take most of that responsibility and put on us up front,鈥 Merritt said. 鈥淚f there鈥檚 a bad throw or bad run, it鈥檚 just picking them up and letting them know that we鈥檒l be ready for the next play.鈥

After an offseason which featured significant changes in the district, coaching staff and personnel, the Warriors are ready to get on the field.

鈥淚鈥檓 excited to see our kids play,鈥 Boyce said. 鈥淲e鈥檙e excited to play for real, and I think everyone is chomping at the bit to get to do that.鈥
